Unfortunately, things spill. Whether it be a glass of milk or the paint that was supposed to be applied to your building. Accidents are unavoidable.  But limiting the damage to the environment, as well as preserving your company reputation, is the most important part.

Handle paint spills ASAP

Paint spills, big and small, intentional or unintentional, can spread like a wild fire, and, if not handled correctly, can cause serious environmental damage.

When contacting a company to clean up a paint spill, you should be sure they employ certain industry standard techniques, because paint solvent and such are chemically based.  After the base of the paint is broken down, it can then be chemically suspended, drawn from the substrate, and vacuumed up to collect the residue. Even the most difficult and stained in paints have been successfully cleaned up using this effective process

The clean-up process

First, the spilled needs to be contained, so that the amount of spreading is minimised. This is done by covering the spill with an absorbent material designed to soak up and retain what remains of any solid residue.

Then, in accordance to EPA guidelines, the absorbed material is then collected, and safely discarded.

From there, a liquid formulated to break down the paints molecular bond, is applied to the area where the paint was spilled – releasing it from the surface.

The final step is to shower the surface with pressurised water, which will leave the area clean and free of any contaminates.

The waste water is then collected by vacuum before it has a chance to enter drains or harm the environment.

So if you ever get into a situation where you’re dealing with a paint spill, you know what to do, and what to look for when deciding on a company to clean it.
